Hence it is not a rational expression. 2x / [x ^ (2) + 5]: - 2 is not integer so it is not a rational expression. Solution: - (3x + 2) / x^2 + (x^2 + 2) / x^3 =[ x (3x + 2) + (x^2 + 2)] / x^3 = (3x^2 + 2x + x^2 + 2) / x^3 = (4x^2 +2x + 2) / x^3 = 2(2x^2 + x + 1) / x^3 Simplify: - (x+1)/(x-1) (x-1)/(x+1) Solution: - [(x+1)^2-(x-1)^2]/[(x+1)(x-1)] =[(x^2+2x+1)-(x^2-2x+1)]/(x^2-1^2) =(x^2+2x+1-x^2+2x-1)/(x^2-1) =4x/(x^2-1)
